Can you believe that it's already the middle of Summer? With vacations, sporting events, family visits and more, sometimes we may neglect parts of our homes- even if it's right outside. Here are some tips and tricks to bring some life to your yard! Whether it be a little TLC or revamping for more parties and BBQ's, check these out for some fun ideas to incorporate into your home's care.
There are so many plants in this world with numerous benefits that make your life a little better. Lovely and aromatic plants like lavender, beebalm, marigolds, and geraniums repel annoying pests like mosquitos that love your backyard parties just as much as you do. At the same time, these plants also attract beautiful butterflies to bring extra life and color! Walking past them as you make your way to your front door is a perfect way to enter your home.
Who said putting up lights is only allowed during the Winter? Not us! Having a tasteful string of lights on your deck is a wonderful addition to create ambiance for any occasion. From a warm white for a romantic date with your partner or bright multi-colors for a BBQ, the options are endless! If this sounds up your alley, consider energy-saving RGB LEDs that change color, either from a remote or conveniently on your phone.
This isn't just a term for loving the Grateful Dead- "Deadheading" refers to removing dead parts of a plant to encourage new growth. This is particularly important for keeping flowering annuals healthy during their short lifecycle. By removing flowers that are done looking their best, the plant can spend more energy on making new, even prettier blooms! And for some like sunflowers, you can harvest the seeds to use for next year.
You may not realize that several common household items are perfect for keeping your greenery healthy. Mix in cleaned and finely crushed eggshells from a morning omelet to soil to give your flowers a calcium boost. Going on a vacation? A washed wine bottle filled with water is the perfect slow-drip watering system for a potted plant that needs a little extra babysitting. And a little bit of cinnamon and cayenne pepper sprinkled around keeps little critters at bay. Plus, cinnamon is a natural pesticide!
In this heat, water is essential for both us and our greenspace. When there are yellows and browns on grass and leaves that should be green, water is the solution. If you don't want to do it yourself, invest in a sprinkler system that will do the hard work for you. Frolicking under the water doesn't just have to be for kids and the pets... Don't be afraid to hop under the water to cool down while you work!
The best thing to do to keep your landscape looking just as beautiful as your home is to have fun. What are you waiting for? Grab your sunscreen, turn on your favorite jams, and use this arsenal of tools to make your yard the best it can be!
